AMOSSHE: Annual Conference 2008 - Building a Healthy Future
Wednesday 16 - Friday 18 July 2008
Apex International Hotel, Edinburgh
The Annual Conference 2008 programme focused on future directions for student services and the student experience.
It provided plenty of opportunities to consider questions like where are we going as a sector, do we want to go there, who's in charge, and what does a healthy and sustainable future look like. The Conference gave particular space for looking at the roles of leadership; relationships, within and outside the sector; and structures, in moving towards a healthy and sustainable and holistic university experience.
Keynote speaker Dr Nick Baylis from Well-being Institute opened our Conference on Wednesday afternoon and invited delegates to consider how an appreciation of the skills of well-being can be the most promising means of increasing creativity, productivity and achievement.
Thursday commenced with a challenging, thought provoking, and dynamic panel discussion around the Health Promoting Universities programme. This session set the scene in relation to the theory and practice of health promotion in the University context, and consider the results of a recent national scoping survey.
Situated right in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town – historic Grassmarket – The Apex International Hotel offered handy city centre location, on-site parking, excellent transport links, and incredible views of the great drum tower of Edinburgh Castle. It was a luxury hotel with 171 stylish bedrooms, modern and fully equipped events and conference centre, two AA Rosettes award winning Heights restaurant, trendily relaxed Metro Brassiere and Bar, and superb Yu Time leisure facilities with tropicarium, stainless steel ozone swimming pool and Technogym.
