This professional development event for Student Services leaders in higher education explores working relationships between Student Services and statutory health services, as well as other sector partners, particularly in relation to student mental health. Discover research and case studies about forging pathways and relationships with NHS services around the UK, as well as sector-wide initiatives and alternative collaborations with local partners.

The event is led by AMOSSHE Vice Chair Simon Lee (University of Sunderland) and AMOSSHE Vice Chair (Operations) Helen McNeely (Queen's University Belfast).

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Andy Shanks (The University of Edinburgh) and Mark Wilkinson (Edinburgh Napier University) discussing a collaboration between higher education providers across the city of Edinburgh to develop working relationships with NHS services.
  • Marion English and Michelle Lewis (Falmouth Exeter Plus) discussing a multidisciplinary approach to working with NHS colleagues, which aims to mitigate the impact of under-resourced NHS provision in a rural area.
  • Tracey Mckenzie (University of Sunderland) discussing a collaboration with Home Group, which aims to mitigate the impact of under-resourced NHS provision.
  • Emma Douthwaite (Office for Students) introducing a suite of resources and case studies for higher education providers to use for approaches to joint working with the NHS for student mental health.
  • Helen McNeely and Shauna Smyth (Queen’s University Belfast), Drew Neill (Ulster University) and Jenny McCracken (Belfast Health and Social Care Trust) discussing a collaboration designed to join up institutional and NHS provision across Northern Ireland.
  • Penny Turnbull (University of St Andrews) discussing the benefits and challenges of a critical responder service designed to mitigate the impact of under-resourced NHS provision in a rural area.
  • Ben Lewis and John Groves (Cardiff University) discussing a project to develop working relationships with NHS services across the city of Cardiff.
  • Lisa Banks (Torentum Primary Care Network) providing insights about NHS structures, roles, primary care networks and more to help you understand how things look and work from the other side.

This in-person event takes place at the Pendulum Hotel, Sackville Street, Manchester M1 3BB on Friday 18 November 2022 from 10:00 to 16:30 (GMT).

  • Non-member (other employees of an AMOSSHE member organisation, individuals, not-for-profit and corporate organisations, higher education providers not associated with AMOSSHE) - £230
