About Unite Students

Unite Students is the UK’s leading operator of purpose built student accommodation, providing a home for 42,000 students in over 120 properties across 23 of the UK’s university cities. We work with over 60 higher education institutions, as well as renting rooms directly to students.

The foundation for our success is providing high quality, well-located, safe accommodation that is close to university campuses, transport and local amenities. Our rent includes all bills including insurance, heating, electricity and wifi.

Founded in 1991, Unite Students is a FTSE 250 company listed on the London Stock Exchange. Unite Students employs nearly 1,000 people across England and Scotland.

The group’s charitable trust, the UNITE Foundation, provides 50 scholarships for disadvantaged students and supports several organisations that support widening access to higher education, integrating students into the community and promoting employability.

In May 2013 Unite Students was awarded Student Accommodation Provider of the Year at Property Week’s RESI Awards. Unite Students has also been recognised by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) as a regional sector leader for sustainability.

In 2013, Unite Students launched a new approach to student wellbeing, following a period of research and consultation. Staff in our properties have received development and guidance to help them respond to students in distress or who express concerns. An essential aspect of this approach is to refer students to specialist support in their institution or within the community. Good quality partnerships with university Student Services teams are therefore essential.

For the 2013/14 academic year, Unite Students piloted a ‘First Six Weeks’ programme across all cities. This was designed to help students to settle in and make friends, and to integrate well with their flatmates, the community in their building, their university and the local community.
