Presentation

The Univeristy of Cumbria showcases a joint initiative developed between Disability Services and the Mental Health & Wellbeing Team, and aims to upskill practitioners to work more confidently and therapeutically with neurodivergent students.

By joining this session, delegates will be able to identify core principles of neuro-affirming therapeutic practice in higher education, recognise the benefits of integrated working between Disability and Mental Health services, apply shared assessment and support planning techniques developed through the collaboration, understand how to adapt therapeutic and guidance approaches to better support executive functioning differences, sensory needs, communication styles, and co-occurring presentations and implement strategies to upskill staff across services, ensuring more confident, consistent support for neurodivergent students.

Through case examples, practical tools, and staff development resources, the session demonstrates how cross-team collaboration can strengthen support for neurodivergent students, reduce duplication of services, and improve overall student experience and wellbeing.
