Student perspectives and effective use of AI: a dual lens from Jisc

9.10am – 10.05am BST, 6 May 2026 ‐ 55 mins

Presentation

As AI tools rapidly become part of everyday student life, student services teams face a dual challenge: understanding how students are using AI and how it may be impacting them, and responding to what this means for established models of support, including how to make effective use of AI. Drawing on Jisc’s latest insights into student perceptions and use of AI, this session will explore how learners are using these tools for study, decision-making, and aspects of personal support, and what this means for services such as guidance, wellbeing, and student engagement.

The session will also share learning and approaches from Jisc’s AI impact workshops, highlighting Jisc’s work with institutions to explore practical uses of AI within services, while addressing risk, governance, and the need for human-centred design.
