Student perspectives and effective use of AI: a dual lens from Jisc

9.10am – 10.05am BST, 6 May 2026 ‐ 55 mins

Presentation

As AI tools rapidly become part of everyday student life, student services teams face a dual challenge: understanding how students are using AI and how it may be impacting them, and responding to what this means for established models of support, including how to make effective use of AI. Drawing on Jisc’s latest insights into student perceptions and use of AI, this session will explore how learners are using these tools for study, decision-making, and aspects of personal support, and what this means for services such as guidance, wellbeing, and student engagement.

This session brings together evidence from Jisc’s student and staff research, along with insights from Jisc’s AI impact workshops, to explore how AI is actually being used, where concerns remain, and what is genuinely changing in practice.

We will look beyond headline tools to the wider AI landscape; examine emerging perceptions around learning, assessment and employability; and share practical lessons from workshops that focus on practical uses of AI, not mere speculation.
