This session explores compassionate and survivor-centred strategies to handle sensitive misconduct cases. It'll focus on providing you with tools to create a safer and supportive space through trauma-informed interviewing techniques. We’ll delve into how a solid understanding of the research into traumatic memory and trauma stress responses can inform a more compassionate and successful approach.
Ioana has over a decade of experience in student casework, having worked across multiple UK universities, supporting institutional responses to complex cases and contributing to the development of trauma-informed policies and procedures. Ioana’s work focuses on ensuring that universities move beyond compliance by embedding survivor-centred approaches, improving reporting pathways, and fostering cultures of accountability and respect.
She has led training for staff and student leaders, advised on policy reviews, and collaborated with cross-sector partners to strengthen institutional responses to harassment and abuse. Ioana delivered presentations and workshops on tackling sexual misconduct at three international and national conferences (AMOSSHE, Belfast, July 2023; European Conference on Domestic Violence, Iceland, September 2023; Academic Registrars Council, Brighton, November 2023).
