Professor Rachel Fenton
Professor of Law and Director of Business Engagement and Innovation, University of Exeter
Professor Rachel Fenton is an international expert on bystander programming for the prevention of harmful behaviours in the workplace, sexual violence, sexual harassment, and domestic abuse.
Rachel led a multi-disciplinary team for Public Health England to review the literature, develop, and then evaluate the first evidence-based bystander programme for higher education. The Intervention Initiative has since been recommended by Universities UK, OFS and implemented by universities nationally and internationally.
Since then Rachel has been developing and evaluating evidence-led bystander training for real world contexts such as in professional football and sports, and for workplace incivilities. As co-founder and Director of Kindling, Rachel has led a multitude of bystander training and evaluation projects across multiple sectors including health, Premier League, mining, police, fire and rescue, Office of Police and Crime Commissioners, Welsh government, and is regularly called to give evidence to parliament enquiries.
