Workshop
This session looks at campus life through the lens of cultural relativity to explore how this can impact the many interactions that staff and students have each day.
In a diverse environment, sometimes the way communication is intended is not how it's received. In short, expectations and perceptions do not match lived experience. This creates space for misunderstandings and barriers to positive engagement.
We will consider cultural relativity alongside the principle of the Hidden Curriculum; the norms that go unspoken on a campus but can create a barrier for those who have not grown up in that education system or with the expectation of attending university. And how we can deconstruct and make visible these norms to support a more cohesive environment that supports students to thrive.
