Workshop
In this workshop, participants will explore how Trinity College Dublin designed and implemented a “layered” or stepped‑care‑inspired structure for postgraduate student support. The workshop will unpack the rationale, the design principles, and the practical steps involved in shifting from a one‑to‑one‑heavy model to a broader, preventative framework.
Research demonstrates that one-to-one, direct interventions are consistently favoured by students when resolving their queries or concerns. Individualised interventions, while effective, are resource intensive, and the sustainability and scalability of this model is a pressing one for practitioners. Inspired by stepped‑care models, Trinity introduced layered supports across services and postgraduate programmes. After an initial rise in individual appointments, the preventative approach is now reducing one‑to‑one demand. Targeted, timely interventions are increasing reach and satisfaction, while also strengthening collaboration and sharing expertise across previously separate services.
In this interactive workshop participants will briefly consider some data from Trinity on how developing “layers” of preventative interventions is proving an effective way to mitigate the need forintensive one-one supports and have an opportunity in smaller groups to design a preventative intervention for their own students.
