A collaborative approach to suicide prevention in veterinary education

12.30pm – 1pm BST, 15 October 2025 ‐ 30 mins

Presentation

This session explores the proactive suicide prevention work underway at the University of Lancashire’s School of Veterinary Medicine. With a focus on the veterinary sector’s unique mental health challenges, we’ll share how our coaching and mentoring team collaborate with the school’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisor to raise awareness, reduce stigma and embed wellbeing into the curriculum. Attendees will learn about the goal-oriented coaching model and the support offered to students throughout the year, including at key transition points. We’ll also highlight the positive impact on students through feedback and data, and showcase our ‘How to Thrive’ initiative, which integrates mental health and suicide prevention into the curriculum.

The session will also celebrate the partnership working with those who have lived experience, and future plans and developments as the school continues to grow and champion its whole-school approach to supporting students.
