Presentation

The University of Lancashire has established an enhanced process to provide a comprehensive, wrap-around support framework to support prospective students transitioning into higher education. The framework supports applicants from the point an offer is made, through enrolment, and into their ongoing university experience. The approach promotes close collaboration between the mental health and wellbeing team, the inclusive support team, and academic staff. It ensures that reasonable adjustments and Disabled Students’ Allowance arrangements are implemented effectively, while also embedding a holistic support plan. This may include coordinated transitions between external care services, the development of mental health safety or early warning sign plans, and, where consent is given, appropriate information sharing with key academic contacts who are most likely to have regular interaction with the student.

The session details the process and rationale for supporting applicants when they're transitioning to university. For individuals living with severe, enduring, or otherwise complex mental health conditions, periods of transition can heighten risk and increase the likelihood of relapse.
