Supporting yourself, your colleagues and your future: promoting a supportive team culture

In this session, ‘Building supportive team cultures’, Dr Paul Gentle (Invisible Grail) shares strategies to build impactful team cultures. The work of Student Services professionals can be deeply rewarding yet emotionally demanding. The session will provide tools and practice to connect and care for your colleagues and the wider community you serve, even when your plate’s full.

We’ll explore:

  • Techniques to run online meetings that enable team members to be proactive and to contribute to shaping change.
  • How to be flexible when managing and distributing workloads.
  • Building team cultures that emphasise balance and wellbeing.
  • Cultural approaches in which trust and mutual support flourish.

Dr Gentle will provide opportunities for participants to openly share their honest experiences, challenges and successes that arise within their teams. The session will be a friendly and non-hierarchical space that welcomes all types of Student Services professionals, including student-facing staff, leadership professionals, and more. Join us to feel heard and re-energised alongside peers who understand the realities of student support work.
