Qualifications and accreditation

There’s no standard framework of accreditation or qualification for Student Services leadership in higher education. However, there are several options to pursue if you want to gain qualifications or accreditation based on your expertise and experience.

Postgraduate and vocational qualifications

Higher education providers across the UK offer postgraduate and vocational courses related to areas related to Student Services leadership, including leadership and management. UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is a good place to start to find a course and learning environment that suits you in the UK.

AHEP (Association of Higher Education Professionals) offers a postgraduate course in Higher Education Management and Leadership.

EucA (European university college Association) offers an online postgraduate diploma in Training of experts in Student Affairs / Campus Life.

Consolidate or document your experience

As a busy Student Services leader you’ll have developed a wealth of experience and expertise throughout your career. But the UK Student Services sector doesn’t have a formal framework for you to record and document what you know. So you may want to consider other ways to consolidate or document your expertise in a sector-recognised format. This can be useful if you’re looking to advance in your career or argue for more pay or status.

Personal development

Develop your leadership skills and approaches

Aside from your expertise in Student Services, you are a leader and manager. It’s important to develop and refresh your skills and approaches to ensure you’re strategic and impactful, and you’re getting the best from your teams and supporting them with what they need.
