The Pivot
Explore our new online magazine, a platform where we share the wins, challenges, people, and initiatives from the Student Services sector.
After a rewarding journey, we're thrilled to be launching our new project. It's a new way to showcase the brilliant work happening across the sector.
The National Office team, our members, and event delegates often hear about the amazing work from Student Services professionals, but we felt we could do more to share the wins, challenges, people, and initiatives from the sector. The Pivot started as a way to replace our previous communication channel, 'The quarterly bulletin'. The bulletin was our way to update our subscribers, but it quickly became clear that a fresh approach was needed. And over the past year and a half, the team has been bringing this magazine to life. The magazine introduces a versatile space that can feature videos, articles, reflections, and stories from across the sector.
Behind the scenes, the creation of this space has also been a journey of growth. During the making of this new space, I was offered training opportunities to bring this project from the ideation phase all the way to its delivery. It's been a personal learning journey, but it also reflects a wider commitment from the organisation. The level of dedication poured into making this project mirrors the care AMOSSHE puts into recognising and supporting our members.
In line with our 2025 to 2030 strategy plan, the magazine falls under our 'cultivate excellence' aim, by us most specifically:
From the outset, we knew this magazine would attract inspiring content, which is why it's accessible to all our contacts. The work of Student Services professionals is important, and it deserves to be seen, shared, and celebrated.
In our debut issue, you’ll find stories from seven different institutions, including the University of East London, the University of Roehampton, Hartpury University, the University of Sheffield, the University of the West of England Bristol, Teesside University, and Liverpool Hope University.
Inside the magazine, you'll read:
How one institution explored the changing nature of belonging on campus
Reflections on empowering staff to better support student wellbeing
Tips from a provider who hosted a fully accessible conference, and more.

We're looking for volunteers to be part of the submission review panel. The panel decides which contributions will be included in the upcoming edition of The Pivot. It’s a chance to contribute your perspective and help choose the ideas and voices from across our community that will be spotlighted in the magazine. Only named members can join the panel.
