The Pivot: connecting practice across Student Services

We’re pleased to share that the third issue of The Pivot is now available to read.

This edition brings more insights, reflections and examples of practice from colleagues across Student Services. There’s a variety of articles across the UK from our member organisations. We believe collaboration and shared learning contribute to stronger experiences for students and the professionals who support them. Through a range of articles, contributors reflect on current challenges, innovative approaches and lessons learned from their work across the sector. We’re thankful to all contributors who have shared their expertise and experiences to make this edition possible, including the volunteers who reviewed submission proposals.

When we first conceptualised the magazine as a resource, it fit perfectly under our ‘cultivate excellence’ strategic aim. More specifically, by developing a resource that encouraged and empowered our community to excel, innovate and contribute. Understanding this, we knew that, with time, our members would recognise its value and that it would spill over into our ‘empower our community’ strategic aim, which it has.

This edition attracted contributors from all professional levels. The informal conversation option was used far more this time around, and I was able to help build up two articles with the contributors. We hope more prospective contributors, at all professional levels, feel confident sharing their perspectives and work. Also, this edition features an article from a sector partner, UMHAN (University Mental Health Advisers Network). In the article, they advocate for the wellbeing of our community of mental health practitioners. We look forward to connecting with more organisations to support our advocacy for the sector.

Now in its third iteration, the magazine clearly supports two of our strategic aims. The objective is to continue building on this work so that it contributes to our third strategic aim, influence the sector.

In the third issue of the magazine, you’ll find stories from providers across the UK and, as you can read in my editor's letter, many of the articles speak to different facets of belonging.

Dig into the articles; they’re worth the read:
