Self-care resources

There are many resources and networks to help you look after your mental health and physical health.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

Crisis support

If you feel distressed you can seek help from your organisation’s support services or colleague networks. Alternatively, here are some other services that can help:

  • The Samaritans are open every day of the year, you can phone them for free on 116 123 or email [email protected] (response time: 24 hours).
  • SHOUT 85258 is a free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope.
  • Mind, the mental health charity, offers support by phone on 0300 123 3393 or online.
  • NHS mental health information and support.

Health and wellbeing

To maintain your health and wellbeing on a regular basis in a busy or stressful role, these resources may help you and your teams.

  • Acas (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) has free resources about health and wellbeing at work.
  • The Workplace Wellbeing Charter provides a national accreditation for organisations who are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of their workforce.
  • Mind, the mental health charity, offers training and resources to support good mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
  • Civil Service College offers courses about wellbeing and resilience in a professional context.
  • A life coach might help you find a better balance between the stress of work and what you enjoy about it. They might help you re-find or reinvigorate the reasons you do the work you do, and find new ways to make the most of yourself without risking burnout. Life Coach Directory is a tool to find a life coach near you.
