Executive elections 2026

Find out about our Executive Committee elections and how to join in.

If you’re an AMOSSHE member as part of a UK higher education provider you have the opportunity to join the AMOSSHE Executive Committee and help shape the future and priorities of our community.

Six roles will soon become available on the Executive Committee, to serve for a term of two years (3 August 2026 to 31 July 2028).

From Friday 13 March 2026 AMOSSHE members can nominate themselves to join the Executive Committee in one of these roles.

What’s the AMOSSHE Executive and why are there elections?

AMOSSHE is directed by 12 Executive Members, who are Student Services professionals and AMOSSHE members. The Executive, who include AMOSSHE’s Chair and Vice Chairs, are elected by our members and volunteer their time to ensure that AMOSSHE works in the best way to support our members, the sector and the student experience.

Executive roles last for two academic years, and every year half of the roles become vacant. All named AMOSSHE members who are part of a UK higher education provider organisation membership (lead members, core named members and additional members) have the opportunity to join the Executive by nominating themselves for a role.

AMOSSHE members vote for the nominees they want to elect.

Find out more about the AMOSSHE Executive Committee.

Which roles are becoming vacant?

The Executive Committee has 12 roles altogether, and half of these are open for nominations this year. In 2025 the six roles open for election are:

  • Vice Chair
  • Vice Chair (Operations)
  • Four Executive Member roles

Here’s more detailed information about the available roles:

Who can nominate to join the Executive?

You can nominate to join the AMOSSHE Executive Committee if you’re a named member as part of a UK higher education provider organisation membership. You can nominate if you’re the lead member, a core named member, or additional member.

No more than one named person per higher education provider can stand for election or hold a role on the Executive Committee at any one time.

You can nominate for more than one role. For example, you can nominate for the role of Chair and also for the role of Executive Member. Members will vote for you as a candidate for each role. If the roles are uncontested, you can choose which role you want to take.

What are the limitations for nomination?

No more than one named person per higher education provider can stand for election or hold a role on the Executive Committee at any one time. So if someone from your organisation is already on the Executive Committee, you can’t nominate.

If more than one member from the same UK higher education provider wants to stand for election, the lead member for that organisation must negotiate between the prospective nominees. If AMOSSHE receives two nominations from the same higher education provider, neither will be counted.

If you want to nominate for any Chair role (including the Chair, Vice Chair, Vice Chair Operations or Vice Chair Professional Development) you must have served on the Executive Committee before, within the last two academic years.

The maximum duration you can serve on the Executive Committee is eight years, with up to four consecutive years in any Chair role. However, if an Executive member takes on a role mid-term, this is deemed an additional year and can be added to the eight year maximum term of continuous service, thereby allowing nine years of continuous service. You can re-stand for the Executive as many times as you wish, provided that you don’t exceed the maximum consecutive service term each time you stand.

What does being a member of the Executive involve?

As a member of the Executive Committee, we expect you to volunteer your time and experience to ensure that AMOSSHE works in the best way to support our members, the sector and the student experience. By joining the Executive you commit to the values and responsibilities of your role, and AMOSSHE’s values.

We also expect you to attend Executive meetings (usually in London). The meeting dates for the 2025/26 academic year are:

  • Thursday 5 June 2025 (new Executive members induction, online)
  • Thursday 17 and Friday 18 July 2025 (residential, location / format to be confirmed)
  • Friday 24 October 2025 (London)
  • Friday 30 January 2026 (London)
  • Friday 20 March 2026 (London)
  • Friday 5 June 2026 (London)
  • Thursday 16 and Friday 17 July 2026 (residential, location / format to be confirmed)

We also expect you to attend the AMOSSHE National Conference each year, promoting AMOSSHE and being a visible representative of the Executive Committee.

Other commitments you make are voluntary. For example, you might choose to represent AMOSSHE on sector steering and advisory groups, lead on professional development events or aspects of strategy, or contribute to public statements on behalf of AMOSSHE. We expect all Executive members to take on additional responsibilities where reasonable to help ensure an equal workload across the 12 Executive members.

If you nominate to join the Executive but you’re not elected, you still have the opportunity to help lead and shape AMOSSHE. We’ll ask all unsuccessful nominees to join a member focus group. As part of this group we’ll ask for your perspectives, feedback and ideas about projects and policy positions that the Executive team are leading on. Your insights and expertise make a valuable contribution and you can raise your profile with the membership by taking part.

AMOSSHE reimburses the expenses you incur while undertaking work on behalf of the organisation in accordance with our expenses policy.

How do I nominate to join the Executive?

You nominate to join the Executive Committee by submitting this form:

You need to provide a short statement for your nomination (up to 300 words), about why you’d like to be elected to the AMOSSHE Executive. We’ll publish your statement online for members to read, to help them decide who to vote for. It’s a good idea to prepare your statement before you submit your form.

In addition, if you’re nominating for the Chair or Vice Chair (Professional Development) roles, you need a second statement (up to 200 words) about your priorities for the next two years in the role and your leadership qualities.

If you choose to nominate for more than one role, you must submit a separate nomination for each role.

The deadline to submit your nomination is 17:00 (BST) on Friday 4 April 2025.

If you submit your nomination after the deadline, your nomination is invalid.

You don’t need to find member colleagues to support your nomination. The votes of the membership act as your support instead.

How do I vote for nominees?

Following the nominations process, eligible AMOSSHE members can vote to decide which nominees will be appointed to the roles for the 2026 to 2028 term of office. We’ll invite the candidates with the highest number of votes to join the Executive Committee.

When you vote you also have the option to re-open nominations if you don’t want to choose any of the nominees for a role. If there are more votes to re-open nominations for a role than there are votes for the nominees, all eligible members will have a new opportunity to nominate for the role.

All UK higher education provider AMOSSHE member organisations are eligible to vote. Each member organisation has one vote, and if more than one person from a single organisation submits a vote, no votes are counted for that organisation.

You vote using an online form. We’ll send a link to the form to each UK higher education provider organisation’s lead member, and they usually vote on behalf of their organisation. However, the lead may choose to delegate the vote to another person named in their organisation’s AMOSSHE membership.

If you want to nominate someone to vote on your behalf, please contact us by email to tell us who your substitute is.

The deadline to submit your votes is 17:00 (BST) on Thursday 7 May 2026.

If more than one person from a single organisation submits a vote, no votes will be counted for that organisation. So before you vote, please make sure that no other named member from your organisation has already voted, or intends to. If you’re not sure who your lead member is, find your organisation here, or contact us.

The newly appointed members to all the available roles will be announced at the AMOSSHE Annual General Meeting online on Wednesday 13 May 2026.

Who can I vote for?

Each nominee has prepared a personal statement about their intentions and why they’re right for the role.

Some people may have nominated for more than one role. You can vote for the candidate for each role.

When you vote you have the option to re-open nominations if you don’t want to choose any of the nominees for a role. This option is available for all roles, including those that are uncontested.
