2026 Student Happiness Index report
Our Student Assistance programme has grown through close collaboration with our education partners and continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of students and their institutions. Our programme now supports over one million students through their school, university, college, or accommodation provider with specialist, wellbeing services.
We continue to work closely with the higher education sector to support institutions and students through an increasingly complex risk, wellbeing and regulatory landscape.
A key part of this work is Howden’s Student Happiness Index (SHI) - an annual, UK‑wide research programme that captures students’ views on happiness, wellbeing, mental health, academic experience, and the pressures shaping their lives both on and off campus. The SHI provides valuable, independent insight to help institutions better understand student sentiment, identify emerging trends, and inform decision‑making around support services and student experience strategies.
The 2025/26 Student Happiness Index report is due to be launched at the end of April, and will offer fresh insight into how students’ experiences and expectations are evolving in the current climate.
