AMOSSHE’s response to a consultation about assistive technology funding
The consultation sought the opinions of the sector on its proposals to move to a funding model which assumed free assistive software would generally meet the needs of disabled students.
As we represent professionals who design, manage and implement support for disabled students in higher education, we sought the views of our members during various feedback sessions. This allowed us to utilise the collective expertise of our members to evidence the detrimental impact the proposed changes would have on disabled students’ higher education experience.
At the heart of it all, the work aligns with our vision to provide an environment where all our members feel they can share their expertise, impacting the development and success of higher education.
Our response opposes many of the proposals, where we emphasise the limitations of free assistive software and the equality impact of such plans.
