Case study: transforming mental health support through immediate access and personalised care
As UK mental health needs continue to grow, many institutions are looking for ways to expand support without placing additional pressure on already stretched teams. Uwill's latest case study focuses on how London College of Contemporary Music (LCCM) faced this challenge. Like many UK institutions, LCCM was experiencing unprecedented demand, low engagement from their diverse student body, increasing crisis presentations, and limited internal clinical capacity, making access to support difficult for many students. In response to these challenges, last year LCCM partnered with Uwill to provide students and staff with immediate access to counselling with accredited counsellors (with choice of counsellor based on preferences), crisis support and wellness programming, 24/7/365. This case study highlights the impact of the partnership including:
- Enhanced diverse support: 90% of LCCM students choose a BME or bilingual counsellor, demonstrating the importance of choice in engaging diverse student communities.
- Rapid access to counselling: 34% of students requested and completed same-day counselling appointments, highlighting the demand for immediate access to support.
- Strong out of hours support: 31% of counselling appointments occurred out-of-hours and 24% during weekends, evidencing the need for robust out of hours support.
LCCM also credited Uwill’s unique immediate access to support with reducing crisis presentations:
Uwill has probably prevented serious crisis situations, because we’ve had a lot less this year since Uwill. It’s given them that ability to access support early on, so that it doesn’t escalate.
