AMOSSHE’s contribution to the Good Practice Framework: consultation outcome

On Tuesday 15 September 2026, the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (OIA) published the revised section of its guidance for providers when designing and implementing procedures to respond to incidents of harassment and sexual misconduct.

Before its publication, the independent complaints body sought feedback from the UK higher education sector. On Friday 6 February 2026, AMOSSHE responded to the OIA’s consultation on their proposed new section of its Good Practice Framework. Our response mainly endorsed the introduction of the framework, although we recommended clearer language, further guidance on partnership approaches, and additional case studies.

The new section aims to ensure all students at UK higher education providers are treated fairly and receive the right support during harassment and complaint procedures. AMOSSHE’s contribution to the consultation was an opportunity to help shape guidance that affects the sector and its students. We are pleased to highlight the impact of our work and celebrate our community’s collaboration, whose contributions enabled us to draft a response to the proposed section of the framework.

We will continue to advocate for our members to ensure any sector guidance is useful for Student Services professionals, while remaining aware of the resourcing challenges the sector is currently facing.

Below, find our response to the consultation and the recommendations from our response that impact the final section of the framework.
